The Collection: This comic is from a collection of many hundreds that belonged to a friend of our family who passed away on October 19, 2021. He bought them off the rack as a child in the 1940s and 50s. They stayed carefully tucked away in the same home since that time. The first time they were handled or moved is when they were put into a tub when his house was cleaned out after his death. This was not done by us but was mostly done carefully and only a few appeared to be damaged in the process. The original owner had no spouse or children and no other living family, so many of his things came to us. Included in this collection are many Dell Four Color and Disney titles, including a nearly complete run of Uncle Scrooge and a very long run of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and many Captain Marvel Adventures and Marvel Family comics from the 1950s. Update September 2024: All but a few of the Fawcett Comics have been listed and sold. There are still over 200 Disney comics to list. About Me: I used to be an avid comic collector. I always had a copy of the Overstreet guide and was always on the lookout for comics on my wish list. I even worked in a comic book store for about a year when I was in college. That was a long time ago. I never lost the love of comics, but the space to store a big collection became problematic and I sold my very large collection in the late 1980s. I just never started collecting again. About This Listing: Publisher, series, issue, and title: Dell Publishing Co., WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, September 1945, Vol. 5 No. 12, Issue No. 60 First impression: 1.0 Fair. Top of the cover missing. Interior is pretty good. Degree of gloss: Moderate. Condition of cover: Top of the cover is ripped off. A large, scribbly signature and date in pen. Not much else to say. Corners: It has two. Spine and staples: Staples are well centered but a little rusty. The are popped a bit. There is a slight reading bend. Original staples: Yes Interior staples: Matte, tight, centered. Paper color and condition: Off-white, supple. Nice bright ink. First wrap is more oxidized where it wasn't covered. Pages are supple. Smell: Sweet, frosted mini wheats. Interior condition: The centerfold plus a few wraps have some tearing in the fold. Otherwise, this is a really lovely book. Too bad about the cover. The bock puzzle contest has the grid penciled in, but nothing was cut out or sent in. I've included lots of photos of the pretty interior of this book since that's it's one virtue. If I had to give it a grade: 1.0 Fair There is really no reason to go lower here. The book is complete, there is most of an attached cover, albeit not a collectable one, and the interior is pretty nice.
