Description: Thanks for looking! Soviet “Voroshilov Marksman Badge” Red Army Sniper - 1934-41 Height: 38.64mm Width (gear to wheat): 29.35mm Weight w/ screwplate: 7.065g Weight w/o screwplate: 6.480g Screw post length: 6.71mm The sports and defense complex "Voroshilovsky Strelok" was established in 1932. The complex got its name after the People's Commissar for Military and Naval Affairs and Chairman of the Revolutionary Military Council of the USSR K. E. Voroshilov, who excelled in small arms. On October 29, 1932, the badge of the same name was approved. The badge was awarded to members of the OSOAVIAKHIm who mastered the basics of shooting training and fulfilled the appropriate standard for shooting. The production of these badges stopped after the German invasion of the USSR in June 1941. Thus many of those who received the award were trained Red Army snipers who had a chance to test their skills in combat during WW2. Overall this is quite an attractive piece. The enamel is original and relatively chip free. There is still some silvering present on the finish however it appears that the worn screw post has been trimmed. I am unsure if the screw plate is original to this piece even though it threads on quite well. I have included an ultraviolet image to show the lack of modern enamel repairs. I believe this type to match that of ABEPC #1542.b, I’ve included a picture of the reference book however this type was not included for whatever reason. Overall this is a rich piece of Red Army sniping history with possible action in WW2. It’s a great addition to any collection! *** Reach out to me with any and all questions you have.
