Description: Jean Paul Gaultier was a French designer who rewrote the industry rules since inception in 1976. With no formal fashion education to boast of, Jean Paul Gaultier established himself in the 70s and 80s as the “enfant terrible" of French fashion. Founding his menswear label years later in 1984, the artisan was instantly plagued as “l’enfant terrible” for his outlandish, inexcusable designs. Gautier left nothing sacred, dancing over the standard guard rails of high-fashion — he played with gender roles, adorning men in skirts decades before others opted to, and allowed plus sized women and older men to grace his runways. Consciously reconstructing our vision of beauty, he experimented without remorse, pulling from the likes of taboo niches. Utilizing rebellious textiles, Gaultier conveyed his message through inventive mediums, popularizing the mesh full print silhouette. He stomped on guidelines in pursuit of creative expression and was successful in doing so, hailed as a fashion forefather and true Magnus opus in his field. His talent was undeniable, though his utilization of such gifts made him a fiercely divisive designer. While often ripped by the French press, he gained the hearts of numerous subversive, forward-thinking icons, including Madonna and Marilyn Manson, both whom he conceptualized tour wardrobes for. Deriving from the Autumn 1992 collection now three decades ago, this pair of denim uses a Jacquard weaving technique to illustrate an abundance of faces. A jacquard is a fabric has a design or motif woven into the construction of the weave. Jacquards come in an array of designs, from dramatic ornamental damasks, to florals, stripes, chevrons, or geometric patterns. This is in contrast to simpler less technical screen printing methods, Jacquard weaves different colored thread either above or below pre-existing layers, essentially embedding the graphic into the denim fabric itself. This practice is wildly laborious and costly, becoming a tradition of the past as a result. With this piece, these jeans display a menagerie of faces who span both era and emotion. Gaultier scatters both celebrities and strangers atop a vibrant denim base. Some of the faces belong to bygone celebrities, while others are total strangers. Compared to the other iterations of this piece, these pants took significantly more care to craft, as they are fully jacquard. Again, the faces are woven in, not printed, making every iteration of these pants singularly unique, due to variations in the arrangement of the collage. Gautier adds metallic accents to this couture piece. NOTE!!! This is a pair that has been designed in a "Men's Fit", not a "Woman's Fit". This pair fits a size 28x31, and is in pristine Mint condition throughout.
