Description: Original 1891 antique color lithographed county map of Maine, printed more than 130 years ago. The image area measures 30.5 x 24 cm [12" x 9½"], and the map shows railroad lines and stations, canals, counties, cities, towns, rivers, lakes, mountains, and shoreline features. There's an inset plan of Portland and vicinity, including Cape Elizabeth, Peaks Island, Back Cove, and Portland Head Light. Other places and features include Moosehead Lake, Bar Harbor, the Cumberland and Oxford Canal, Kennebunkport, Boothbay Harbor, Mt. Katahdin, the Bangor & Piscataquis Railroad, East Machias, Madawaska, Freeport, Brunswick, Belfast, Augusta, Alfred, Skowhegan, Lewiston, Portage, and the Canadian Pacific Railroad. The map is accompanied by a full page, printed on two sides, with descriptive text on Maine's geography, history, government, and commerce, along with engraved views of more than a half-dozen locations, including Eastport, Bar Harbor, Bowdoin College, and three paper mills. The map and text page were issued in Library Atlas of Modern Geography, published by D. Appleton & Company, New York. It is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine. It was engraved by the Matthews-Northrup Co., Buffalo, New York and is dated 1891 in the lower margin.
