Description: DANNY KAYE SHOW OFF TO A FLYING STARTAn American Airlines jet flew a group of celebrities and press representatives to San Francisco from Los Angeles International Airport last Saturday evening (September 12). En route, the guests previewed the premiere broadcast of "The Danny Kaye Show" for the new season on American's Astro-vision system. Upon arrival in San Francisco, the party boarded busses which took them to the famed Johnny Kan's restaurant in Chinatown. As they approached the eatery, the group was treated to a special parade and firecracker salute. Host for the flight and supervising chef for a 12-course Cantonese dinner at Kan's was Danny Kaye himself. One of the most talented entertainers of all time adn now the star of his own CBS-TV show, Danny is an expert cook and a specialist in Chinese dishes. Says Johnny Kan: "I have known Danny for two years. He frequently visits us, coming in by the kitchen entrance, putting on a cap and taking his place alongside our chefs. He works--and that's all he does. No jokes, no bows, no appearance out front." Last spring the TV star installed a complete Chinese kitchen in an area adjoining his conventional kitchen. Danny's family and guests are treated several nights each week to such delicacies as shark-fin soup, sweet and sour pork, beef and onion rings, Chinese salad, and the like. After their delicious meal, the party left the restaurant to catch the return flight to L.A. By midnight they were back in Southern California once more.
