Description: This antique Christmas ornament features a large butterfly moth with a spun glass tail matching body and cloth wings. The body is a two mold body. The body is heavy and thick. Between 1887 and 1907 both celluloid and bakelite were invented. Because of the heaviness of the body, I believe the butterfly moth was made somewhere between 1907 and 1920. However, it also could be from celluloid that was made between 1887 and before 1907. This is old and it is Antique. I purchased this from a woman years ago. I spoke with the grandmother quite in depth. She told me she did not remember if it was celluloid or bakelite, but it was one of the two. She told me she believed because of the heaviness of the body, she felt it was more BAKELITE. The face is really cute. It has expressive painted on eyes. It has a big nose! It has excellent details, making it a perfect addition to any collection. The strong spring clip ensures that the ornament stays securely on the tree. This vintage ornament is Antique Vintage.
