The book was issued in 1958 to illustrate the process for creating "Sleeping Beauty"; then Walt Disney's newest animated feature film. The true first edition was published by Sandpiper Press / Simon and Schuster with the cream colored hardback cover. This issue was published later in 1958; though this edition was published through Golden Press with the glossy matching hardback cover. The book remains in excellent condition with original dust jacket (protected with removable Mylar cover). A hard to find this edition in any form; particularly one with all of these historic and authentic signatures. Glossy hardcover book cover illustration matches the art used on the dust jacket. 190 pages; published by Golden Press. Other than the signatures, there are no other signs of notations or marks within these pages. As the sale of animated cels began to grow exponentially during this era (particularly when Disneyland began offering the cels in their own "Art of Animation" galleries)... the book may be responsible for the preservation of thousands of pieces of classic Walt Disney animation... now saved for the ages. This text was prominently featured at Disneyland and at museums and art galleries throughout the country. Includes scores of illustrations and photos depicting the process of animation as referenced on Walt Disney's 1957 "Disneyland" television program, "Tricks of Our Trade." A large part of the volume centers around production of Walt Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and includes historic photographs of Eyvind Earle, Xavier Atencio, Bill Justice, Ham Luske, Eric Larson, Wilfred Jackson, Les Clark, Bill Anderson, Card Walker, Harry Tytle, Gerry Geronimi, Pinto Colvig, Thelma Witmer, Frank Armitage, Walt Peregoy, Al Dempster, Ralph Hulett, Paul Smith, Bob Gibeaut, Ollie Wallace, and many other animators, artists and production personnel at work on the film. Author Bob Thomas spent his career as a journalist and columnist in the entertainment industry and also wrote the official biography, "Walt Disney - An American Original" (1976) and the first book published after Walt's death in 1966, "Walt Disney - Magician of the Movies (1966). Some shelf wear noted; but the book is among the finest we've seen; particularly with the high number of artist / animator signatures featuring personnel from the Walt Disney Studio. Perhaps most notable, the signature of Myron "Grim" Natwick (1890 - 1990), one of the true pioneers in the field of animation. Along with creating the character of Betty Boop for Max Fleischer / Fleischer Studios in 1930... Natwick soon joined with the Walt Disney Studio to serve as lead animator in creating the character of Snow White in Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). The book also includes the signature of Marc Davis (Cruella de Vil, Tinker Bell, Maleficent, et al)... a significant addition as Marc was one of the assistant animators assigned to work with Grim Natwick in animating the character of Snow White. Without a doubt: a top tier treasure for the finest Disney library or museum archive.
