This Buddy “L” 208 toy bus was manufactured circa 1927 by the Moline Pressed Steel Company of East Moline, Illinois. The pressed steel body is finished in green, and features include 26-place seating, two doors, aluminum wheels, a steering mechanism, and Buddy “L” decals. Moline Pressed Steel Company was founded in 1910 and initially produced stamped components for automotive applications. The company later began manufacturing steel toys under the Buddy “L” brand, and the 208 bus was designed as a “ride-on” model that could support the weight of a child. Details include two hinged doors, side and rear windows, a double-bar front bumper, faux headlight housings with bright trim, louvered engine cover panels, and Buddy “L” decals. The aluminum wheels feature body-color centers and are secured via hexagonal hubs with a dually axle in the rear. The bus can be steered toward the right by rotating the side-mounted spare tires rearward, while rotating them forward steers the bus to the left. The toy measures approximately 29″ long and weighs roughly 17 pounds. The front compartment is accessed via hinged doors and houses a body-color steel bench seat, while the rear compartment is outfitted with 10 benches in a 2+2 configuration along with two inward-facing benches situated over the wheel wells. Buddy “L” decals are affixed to the interior surfaces of the doors, and additional details include a four-spoke steering wheel, vent window openings, and body-color floors.
